The small town of Bansko is situated 925 metres above sea level, at the north-eastern foot of the Pirin mountain. A popular mountain ski resort, the town still manages to retain its architectural and historical value.
As well as the obvious skiing opportunities, there are other nearby attractions that are worth a visit:
Velyanov House (700 metres) - built in the early 19th century for Velyan Ognev (master builder and painter), the house contains many original woodcarvings, murals and is a superb example of Revival Period architecture.
The Church of the Holy Trinity (700 metres) - built in 1835, this church contains a number of intricate and beautiful artistic features. Its belfry now dominates the town skyline.
Banya (5 km) - the nearby village is famous for its remarkable 27 thermal mineral springs.
